Made it to Vegas. Hot. Dry. Flashy. Vegas.
Took off 6pm Tuesday from Sacramento towards Lodi, California in order to meet Craig and return to Las Vegas together. It was a nice long drive through the night (thankfully Craig had the Camp Rock album on his phone to keep me awake…apparently he’s a big fan) and we eventually reached the glow of Sin City by sunrise. I got to sleep for a few hours and then it was awake by 11 and off to work with the team at the Las Vegas Gentlemens Club Expo. It was my choice to either stay home and sleep or hit up the convention with the team. I wanted to get a jumpstart working with the team, meet some new people, and mostly just was curious to find out what working the Vegas show floor would be like.
We spent the whole day at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center handing out Bibles and giving the message “Jesus Loves Sin City” to attendees and other people a like. Overall it was a very tame show. Most of the vendors were furniture designers, alcohol distributors, or selling other various products. In the midst of all that, our “Jesus Loves Sin City” booth certainly received intriguing looks and many questions. We were there to be a light in the dark. More and more I’m realizing that’s what this ministry is all about. Nothing amazing, nothing spectacular, just doing a simple, honest job of being a picture of hope in a hopeless world. More and more I am learning that is the heartbeat of this ministry, but not only this ministry but the heartbeat of our lives. (See video about the Gentlemen’s Club Expo in upcoming XXXchurch.tv Episode 27).
So first day was spent at the stripper convention. Second day was spent buying an iPhone. That’s right. You move to Vegas, work with XXXchurch, you have got to have an iPhone. I think it’s a prerequisite on the application. Besides, Stephen Rose has one. Anyways, I was so stoked to finally purchase my first iPhone…and within 24 hours, my life changed. I dropped my iPhone.
It leapt into the air in an act of desperation; for iPhone wanted to be seen and not hidden in the dark, lint laden pocket of my new navy colored H&M shorts (everything falls out of these shorts pockets). Kissing the ground in a complete form of ecstasy, iPhone had made its love connection with the pavement. Okay, okay, okay, calm down. It’s just a phone. Basically it completely splintered the screen from top to bottom. I was pretty disappointed.
Long story short, I have a new iPhone hanging around my neck on a chain with a pad lock that can only be unlocked by two people in the world. It won’t fall now, but unfortunately I am not one of those two people, so my usage time with iPhone will be limited. Just kidding.
And basically, nothing else exciting has happened this week. I’m okay with that. I have been enjoying getting to know my new roommates and exploring the area. Things are going well. I got my desk figured out in the office and already have a few projects lined up to keep me busy. This next week will be an introduction week for the rest of the new team and I. Dinner at the Gross’ house, bowling at Red Rock Lanes, moving to a new office, and various other exciting Vegas activities!
I’m excited to be here and looking forward to wild ride before me. Oh, and I can’t wait to do this. Stratosphere. Bam.
