If I’m honest with myself, I wear a wrist watch for aesthetic appeal. If I want to know what time it is I generally look on my computer screen or glance at my phone. A friend of mine recently pointed out the other day how generally uncommon it is to find people using a device that does one thing only. In a world filled with multi-tasking, instantaneity (it’s a word), and getting more “bang for your buck” it is uncommon to find products that do one thing and do one thing well. Of course, there is a market for multipurpose devices, but I tend to have greater respect for the item, person, or brand that has singular focus.

What is more profitable, giving 100% of your attention to one task or giving a small percentage of attention to many tasks?

I am constantly at war with myself over self-promotion of my work as a graphic designer. I go through phases of thinking I need to work as hard as possible to spread the word of how I can help people with creative projects. Other times, I fall into a lull of thinking that if people need work, they will come to me. In a conversation with a friend about not receiving projects he asked me how much time I was putting into advertising myself – none. “How can you expect to get anything if you don’t give anything?” he asked.

So I go back and forth on self-promotion, but I hope this time it’s not just a phase. For all of you out there, I am working, I am for hire, and I want to help you complete your project. Let’s make something beautiful.

Spent this last week hanging out in the greater Los Angeles area. Lots of driving. Good times.

In an effort to cover every angle of the social media game, I have been playing around with Tumblr lately.

Feel no obligation to visit, but if you find yourself alone at a computer with nothing to do for a few minutes or just want to kill some time at work, take a look. Chances are you have one too.

I have always been jealous of those who connect with their art by use of their hands. Painters. Sculptors. Writers. For me there seems to be such a disconnect between myself and my work in Graphic Design. I can’t touch it. I can’t hold it. I can’t stand back to view it in its entirety or step forward to see the detail. Ironically, I find Graphic Design to be more static than traditional art forms.

I always wanted to be an artist.
